Your vote is your voice in our democracy. Registering to vote is the first step in making your voice heard and participating in the future of our nation.

Why Your Vote Matters

Shape Your Community

Local elections directly impact your daily life - from schools and roads to public safety and taxes. Your vote helps shape the community where you live.

Protect Your Rights

Voting helps ensure your constitutional rights are protected. Elected officials make decisions that affect your freedoms and liberties.

Every Vote Counts

Many elections are decided by slim margins. In 2018, a Virginia House of Delegates race ended in an exact tie and was decided by drawing a name from a bowl.

Honor Those Who Fought

Many Americans fought and died for the right to vote. Voting honors their sacrifice and the principles of our democratic republic.

Be Represented

Politicians respond to the needs of those who vote. Communities with higher voter turnout receive more attention from elected officials.

Set an Example

When you vote, you demonstrate civic responsibility to your family, friends, and community. Your participation encourages others to do the same.
